I recently had a chance to go out to dinner with friends at Devon’s Food Bar (31 Bradford Street). It easily could become one of my new Provincetown favorites. Devon’s Food Bar serves a small plate menu which gives you the chance to try and share a number of items. The menu isn’t huge, but there is a very good variety of items. For those of you with dietary concerns they have a number of gluten free and vegan options.
My friend David and I got there before the rest of our party, I was hungry so we started with the Elote, which is a grilled corn dip with homemade chips. I could have had that all night and been happy. When the rest of our party arrived we decided we were going to try as many items as we could. Our food fest started with Lobster Bisque shooters (fun and yum), Deviled Eggs topped with bacon (everything is better with bacon), Roasted Wellfleet Oysters, Julienned Fried Pig’s Ears and Asian Bibb Lettuce Cups (pictured). I wasn’t a fan of the fried pig’s ears, but if I didn’t know what it was I may have liked it.
Our food fest then moved on as we tried the Risotto du Jour which was a beet risotto the night we visited. I didn’t think I was a fan of beets, but it was wonderful. We also had the Carne Asada Mexican Street Tacos, the Fish of the Day which was halibut, the Grilled Sliced Hanger Steak, the Roasted Cauliflower, the Fresh House Made Ramen Noodles with Pork and the Special of the Day which was a braised beef dish which was incredibly tender and delicious. Each dish is prepared in a unique manner, many come with a dipping sauce and each has their own distinctive flavor. When you can order so many small plate items your taste buds are in for a real treat.
Of course our night had to end with a sampling of desserts. Each dessert is $5 so you can try more than one. We shared the Lemon Curd Cheesecake, Chocolate Puffed Rice Log and the Flan with fresh berries (pictured). It was a perfect ending to the night.
Devon’s Food Bar was a hit with all of us. We’ll be back again and again. The are closed on Thursday and are also open for breakfast every day except Thursday.
When you make your reservations at The Somerset House Inn plan to hit Devon’s Food Bar at least one of the nights you are in town. The Somerset House Inn has two rooms left for Carnival and limited availability in August. The last week in August has more availability so we hope to see you soon.
